Manchester City Reach FA Cup Final With Mahrez Goal Against Chelsea

City Through to Cup Final

Chelsea's Losing Streak Continues

Holders Manchester City secured their place in the FA Cup final on Sunday afternoon after Riyad Mahrez's second-half goal earned them a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. The Algerian substitute struck in the 55th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error from the Blues to send City into their second consecutive final and extend Chelsea's losing streak against them to five matches.

Chelsea began the match on the front foot, with Mason Mount hitting the post from close range in the early stages. However, City grew into the game as the half wore on, and they came close to opening the scoring when Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick cannoned off the crossbar. Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga also produced a fine save to deny Erling Haaland from point-blank range.

The second half continued in much the same vein, with both sides creating chances but failing to find the breakthrough. Mahrez, who had been introduced just before the hour mark, proved to be the difference-maker. The former Leicester City winger latched onto a loose ball in the Chelsea defense and fired a low shot into the bottom corner, giving Arrizabalaga no chance.

Chelsea pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but they were unable to break down a resolute City defense. The victory extends City's winning run to five matches and keeps them on course for a potential quadruple this season. They will now face the winners of the second semi-final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the final on May 6.
